Cistus is a widespread shrub in the Mediterranean bush and scrubland, predominantly in the Moroccan cities of Oujda, Tetouan and Tangier where it blossoms between the spring and summer months. There are a number of different types. Since the earliest times, it’s been used in perfumes and for its naturally secreted resin. Its exceptionally concentrated and soothing amber aroma is on a par with the luxurious fragrances what were so favoured in the ancient world. Cistus is indeed one of the rare plants to produce natural animal notes. Its essential oil is used as a base note for manufacturing perfumes in the Cyprus or Amber group.
